Building and maintaining the e-mail systems have mostly been expensive and time consuming, especially for individuals who just wants to use his or her personal e-mail domain as well as the corporations. At this point, hosting services are an option but you should choose the most suitable one for your needs. The option you choose should be compatible with mobile devices and different e-mail client application, etc. . Not to mention security best practices and standards it has to be achieved.
I assessed AWS’ WorkMail web service several months ago as preview user which has now been generally available in some regions including Oregon, Ireland,Northern Virginia since the 4th, January. In my opinion, it is one of the worth-to-evaluate web services that AWS serves :)
Let’s look at the summary of features.
· Key management service integration
· ISO Certifications which Workmail has achieved (ISO 27001 , 27017 , 27018 )
· Regional data control, easy setup and configuration, client support , migration tool , resource creation and usage , malware/virus/spam protection etc.
You can start to evaluate the service with hitting the Get Started button shown above. It approximately takes 20 minutes to create your WorkMail organization. If you want to use your own e-mail domain, you have the option to add it. AWS WorkMail service needs to verify your domain ownership. To verify domain ownership, you are entailed to create different types of DNS records that you can complete the task using your current DNS manager/DNS Hosting provider.
There are some examples shown below to fulfil the required conditions.
Some parts of the screenshot is deliberately cut for security reason. Your domain will be at “pending verification” status until you configure these records.
I think, the feature has reasonable pricing options with one month trial up to 25 users. Afterward, you will be charged $4 per mailbox with 50 GB of mailbox storage per mailbox or $6 per user with 50 GB of mailbox storage per mailbox and 200 GB of WorkDocs storage. So, you can purchase WorkMail and WorkDocs together. No upfront , pay-as-you-go.
All in all; whether you are an active AWS subscriber or not you can give a try and assess this easy-to-go e-mail service, at least within the trial period.
Enjoy and have a nice day!
