File System Archiving with Enterprise Vault 10 (en-US)
With this article I want to explain the steps of initial File System Archiving configuration with Enterprise Vault 10.0.2 .
I used my test environment for screenshots.
At my test environment;
EV Server hostname is WINEV1
SQL Server hostname is WINSQL
File Server hostnames are WINSRV1 and WINSQL
EV site name is LifeRoot
Test domain fqdn is test.sym
Let`s go on with configuration
1- Launch EV Admin Console with EV admin/service accout.
2- Expand the Site.
3- Expand the Targets.
4- Right click the File Servers node and click new to add a new target server.
6- We need the Fully Qualified Domain Name of the file server. And do not forget to click Install the FSA Agent … checkbox!
8- If windows firewall service is active on all profiles or on the profile that is active on server, some ports and program rules (for executables) will be needed.
11- FSA Agent requires the rules (program/executables) written below.
13- After configuring required rules we can go on with step 7
14- Next screen shown at step 7, we need EV Admin/Service account password.
15- If you do not have any issue with firewall, FSA Agent will successfully be installed. You can check the logs by right-clicking server name.
17- Click next. Services which were installed few minutes ago will be started.
19- On next screen enable data collection.
20- You can also use a FSA Reporting DB if you created one earlier.
21- Now new File Server is located under the “Targets” as shown below.
23- New target file server’s name is winsrv1.
24- Now we need to add the volume and folder(s) which we want to archive.
25- If you have specific file extensions private to your corporate you can define them with File Groups section as shown below
27- Let`s go on with step 24.
28- Right Click File Server and add new volume.
29- You can add a regular or a hidden (administrative share or hidden share) share.
31- Choose which is suitable for your design and continue.
33- Choose the vault store which will be used.
34- Click next and choose the archiving task.
35- Click next and choose the policy which will be used.
37- When you click finish, the volume will be added to EV Admin Console.
39- Now we need to create/add an archive point. (if you forget to create archive point some warnings will be created in Event Viewer)
40- To add an archive point, right click the volume and click new folder so you can launch the “New Folder” wizard.
42- Press Browse button and choose the folder you want to archive.
43- You can choose to use default settings or use a folder policy that is created earlier which meets with your criteria.
45- Click next.
47- Choose one option which is suitable for your archiving design.
48- In fact each option has different meaning for archiving & searching design. You can test them and decide to use one of them.
49- Click next.
51- Archive Point is added now.
52- You can run the File System Archiving task and begin archiving.
53- After running FSA task you can check the results from event viewer for info/warning/error as shown below.
55- If you want to search an item from archive, you can use Archive section. Right click and archive and click Search Archive. If Search Archive context menu is missing, it means that you have insufficient permission to do this action.
57- You can also use internet explorer to search from archive as shown below.
This is the end.
I hope this is informative for you.
Kind Regards.
